Jakob grew up surrounded by musicians and dancers and therefore even as a child had the pleasure of visiting the stages of the world. Later he worked as a dancer and actor, in production design and as assistant director in dance and theater ensembles. As a result he developed an eye for the fine arts as well as a pronounced instinct for motion at an early age. His discreet, calm character, his reliability, diligence in preparation and his commitment gain him the respect of his peers. Jakob often joins his projects during conceptualization, guiding them along all stages, from script development, through rehearsals and shooting to editing, compositing and color correction. Visually, he loves wide, big shots, puts a high priority on color concepts and details in production design, as well as costumes and make-up.
Since finishing his studies of cinematography at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund he has been working as director of photography, primarily in Berlin, but also internationally. His main field of work is live action, for example in “Verlangen – Desire” (2011, director: Laura Fischer), Hof International Film Festival, “Fruit Flies” (2013, director: Bijan Benjamin), nominated at the Studio Hamburg Award and awarded at the Sunscreen Film Festival Los Angeles and several others and “Neonlichter – Neon Lights” (2014, director: Barbara S. Müller), Soho International Film Festival NYC, San Diego Film Festival and many more. In 2014 for “Sturm des Wissens” he was responsible for the cinematography of a TV series for the first time and in 2016 he worked as the second unit DoP on the short film “Trouble Agent” with Sacha Baron Cohen. Currently in progress are the feature films “2Close2U” and “Therapy” (Bayerischer Rundfunk) by Berlin based production company Volle Pulle Film. In New York City he shot the American independent film “Between Seconds”.
Besides fiction films Jakob still loves to create dance and theater films as well as stage visuals and installations, for example at the Lincoln Center, New York (2010), or for “La Porta Della Legge” at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice (2014). He was co-founder of the camera rental “Hand & Fuß” (Berlin).
